It is such a privilege to be here in a conference in honour of Professor Chinua Achebe, an inspiration and teacher to all of us. I have a long connection to Nigeria.. Not only was I, an Ambassador there, I have travelled to and from Nigeria for a number of years and have a deep and abiding vital emotional attachment to the Nigerian people, their magnificence, their courage, artistic brilliance, their irony, sense of humour in the face of challenges, etc. And, I hope that we keep that in mind when I say some things that I think are counter to what we normally say about Nigeria. And, I say that with all due respect to Eric Silla, who is doing a magnificent work at State Department and to our good friends from the legislature; because I have a feeling that we both Nigerians and Americans may be doing Nigeria and Nigerians no favour by stressing Nigeria's strategic importance.

A burning desire will remain a burning desire if we do not take the necessary steps to manifest these dreams we have created in our mind. There are a combination of steps to ensure our success and it is crucial to start off on the right foot.
Here is the truth: Success is not going to locate you while you sit there patiently and give you everything you want in life. Now that we got that out of the way, it is time to accept the fact that it is our responsibility to create our life story and that we will be the one to do the work.
Effective steps in transforming your desires into reality:

I feel honoured to be invited by my esteemed friend Sam to write an “Article of Virtue”.
This is my first public article… an important turning point on my path of life!
“Oneness” is a heartfelt subject to me! So, let’s start in considering the following quote:
“See… the Light of Love which is in all. You will find a magic, living relationship uniting the trees, the sky, the stars, all people, and all living things; and, you will feel oneness with them.”– Paramahansa Yogananda
You certainly read similar quotes… but, have you reflected on the nature of this mystical link? Have you felt that special bond… with a plant or a pet; with a tree or an animal?
A new year is a time for new beginnings no matter how arbitrary our human measures can be. Our biggest obstacle is not the beginning at all. Instead we vacillate, we procrastinate, we fail to take the first step out onto our chosen path. We let fear, timidity, self criticism, and our family and friends' opinion stop us before the real adventure has begun.
No shame here friends, we all do it... but to recognize our self imposed barriers is the first milestone toward self fulfillment. To squint up the eyes, adjust the ears, roll the eyes, clamp down hard on the teeth, and grimacing against the effort we lift one foot and put it ahead of the other. Then next step is some how easier and closer.

My name is Karen and I am called Black Belt Granny. I am a Black Belter and I started taekwondo at age 64 and got my first Black Belt at 66, I am now going for my second Black belt.I am 69 and a Brown belt here. I know taekwondo, hapkido.
Before I went into martial arts, 8 people in my family died of cancer including my husband, mother, father, husband and two brothers - one at 53 and one who died last year on Thanksgiving Day at 67; also I now have two cousins with cancer now. I stayed with and took care of my father, mother and husband with cancer. I was with all of them when they died.

Sometime in 2002, I attended a very good friends wedding. I was very excited about this event because a lot of old friends were going to be attending and it would some sort of a great reunion of friends and foes alike. Friends to refresh our goings and catch up with old gist, while the foes will be for making amends. I arrived early so as to get a prime spot where I could mingle well. But this was going to be a fateful day and one I will not forget in a hurry.
